Talking and actions

This page explains the talking commands, how to use /me and /do, and how what you write appears to other players.

Summary

  • Press T to open the chat. Anything you type as plain text is heard by people within 20m.
  • You write actions with /me, situations and results with /do, and OOC talk with /b.
  • In a /me you only write what you attempt, and the other player decides the result.
  • An ID in a command is the player’s server number, which you can look up with /id name.

  • You type/me takes a cigarette from his pocket and puts it in his mouth.
  • * Tony Russo takes a cigarette from his pocket and puts it in his mouth.

  • /melow (5m), /melower (1.5m) and /mehigh (40m) change how far your action can be seen.
  • /my description describes one of your own items (for example /my watch has a cracked face.).

/do describes what can be seen, heard or smelled, and the result of an action. You also use it to ask the other player about the situation.

  • You type/do Cigarette smoke drifts away in the wind.
  • * Cigarette smoke drifts away in the wind. (( Tony Russo ))
  • * Would the door be locked? (( Tony Russo ))
  • * It is not locked. (( Maria Lopez ))

4. Good and bad /me

If you write the result into your /me, the other player has no chance to respond. This is called powergaming (PG), and it breaks the rules.

Good

  • /me reaches out with his right hand, trying to grab her wrist.
  • /me swings a fist at his jaw.
  • /me holds out the wallet and nods for her to take it.
  • /me turns the door handle, trying to open it.
  • /me slips a hand toward his pocket.

Bad

  • /me grabs her wrist, twists it and pins her to the floor.
  • /me knocks him out with one punch.
  • /me takes his wallet and puts it in his own pocket.
  • /me kicks the locked door in with one blow.
  • /me gets shot but walks away as if nothing happened.

The other player answers with the result in a /me or a /do. If the result is hard to decide, settle it with /roll (a die with 6 sides by default) or /coin (a coin toss).

  • * Tony Russo reaches out with his right hand, trying to grab her wrist.
  • * Maria Lopez pulls her arm away quickly and steps back.
