Vehicles and licenses

This page explains the driving test, your first car, renting and buying cars, keys, engine and fuel, parking and the impound lot.

Summary

You get a driver’s license by pressing E at the license center and passing a practical test, and it is valid for 1 year.
Once you have a license, you can rent your first car free for 3 days at the airport rental.
You store a car with /vp and take it out with /vg, and you buy fuel by the litre at gas stations.
You get an impounded car back at the impound lot by paying a fee that starts at $250.

1. Driving test

Press E at the license center and sign up for the driving test. A test car appears.
Get into the driver’s seat of the test car within 60 seconds.
Drive through the checkpoints in order. At stop points, bring the car to a stop before you move on.
Each section has a speed limit (km/h), and going over it is a fault. Too many faults or running out of time fails the test.
When you reach the last point, you are issued a driver’s license. It is only issued to characters aged 18 or older and is valid for 365 days.

Warning

If you leave the driver’s seat for more than 10 seconds during the test, you fail at once. The test also ends if you are handcuffed or badly hurt.

2. Ways to get a car

Self-service rental	$25 per 30 minutes, up to 2 hours + $100 deposit	You rent a Dinka Blista or Pegassi Faggio. The deposit is refunded if you return it within 40m of a rental point.
Dealership	Price + 8% sales tax	Find where a car is sold with `/finddealership car-name`.
Used car	Agreed price	The seller types `/sellvehicle price buyer-ID`, and the buyer accepts with `/buyplayervehicle`.

A car you own must have its registration renewed every 30 days. Renewal costs $50 plus 1% of the car’s price (at most $5,000), and you can renew from 7 days before it expires.

3. Keys, engine and fuel

Y starts the engine, L locks the car and O fastens the seatbelt.
To give someone a copy of your car key, type /vduplicate ID. You take a copied key back with /vrevoke character-ID.
To refuel, press E at a gas pump. The price per litre is shown above the pump.
A jerry can costs $25 and holds 20L, and you can carry up to 3.
If your car is upside down, use /vflip (once every 30 seconds). To bring your empty spawned car to you, use /fixveh.

4. Parking and taking a car out

Stop the car, make sure everyone gets out and type /vp to store it in your garage.
You take a stored car out with /vg. You can see your car list and their status in /vmenu.
You open the trunk with /vinv.

5. Impound and tickets

Type /impound at the impound lot desk.
If the car has unpaid tickets, pay them first.
Pay the impound fee. The car is released in front of the desk.

Tip

If your car is stolen, report it with /reportstolen plate reason. The car then shows as stolen on police terminals.
